NYB All in! Reports & Research

As part of our All in! programme, National Youth Ballet has commissioned a number of reports to help inform the wider ballet industry about the power and importance of inclusive ballet practice.

Ballet for All Report

Written by NYB All In! Project Manager Natalie Haslam, this report captures the findings from the Ballet For All! Day on 7 July 2025 which was delivered with Birmingham Royal Ballet, DLG and dance artist and NYB Patron Suzie Birchwood.

As well as highlighting the key findings from the day, this report captures engaging feedback inspired by Suzie’s thoughtful provocations. It also sets out some clear next steps and recommendations which we will build on.

Pre-Vocational and Vocational Ballet Report

Written by NYB All In! Project Manager Natalie Haslam, this report highlights the challenges that young disabled dance artists have faced in accessing ballet training and shares their ideas for making it more inclusive. The research explores the question ‘how can ballet be taught in a more inclusive way at pre-vocational and vocational level’?

It includes young disabled dancer’s feedback and outlines areas where change is needed. It also shares practical recommendations for schools and organisations on how to make early-stage dance training more accessible.

We have used this report to shape our practice and better support schools and organisations in helping young disabled dancers from the start of their journey.

“We gathered a group of young disabled dance artists to explore how we could make our work – and that of training courses – more accessible. We hope this report will be useful to young dancers and schools alike.”

– Jo Meredith, NYB Creative Director
